Junefigs is an incredible illustrator from Sydney, Australia. We first saw her illustration in a poster shop in Newtown. We love her bold, feminist and minimalist style. She empowers women’s body with her black and white art. At WhataWonderfulWomensWorld we love the vision she has of Women !!
How would you describe yourself?
I am a small independent Artist living and working in Sydney’s Inner West. Alongside working on JUNEFIGS full time, I also study full time in Graphic Design and work part-time at a day job.
How would you describe your art?
By using 100% minimalism and bold linework, I aim to capture the female form from the female gaze.
How would you describe your field?
My field is Illustration however I merge towards graphic design as all of my drawings are done digitally through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I do love to still work traditionally by blowing up my designs and painting them on a larger scale through mural work and on skateboards.
What do you want to say through your art?
I always aim to explore and discuss some deeper issues which I am passionate about including 4th wave feminism and sex-positivity.
What / Who inspires you?
I’m incredibly inspired by my girlfriends, music, Playboy magazines and fashion.
What obstacles have you faced?
Working independently can be a challenge, I started JUNEFIGS almost 3 years ago after I left University. A lot of what I have learnt is through trial and error. But in the long run, hard work pays off. As I mentioned previously I also work part-time and study full time, juggling all three can get incredibly stressful at times so I have really learnt to manage my time wisely and make some sacrifices to get where I am now.
What is the best advice you could give to someone entering the same industry as you?
Work really hard at what you do and you will get results! Network, refine your style and keep at it.
