Hana Kanee

Hana Kanee is a sublime artist. We fell in love with her beautiful brushstroke. Her abstract style is mind-blowing! Hana also create beautiful digital piece of arts! We are so grateful and happy she agreed to reply to our interview !!

How would you describe yourself?

I’m very fluid with an outcome. I come in with an idea for a piece of work and it always transforms into something entirely different than expected. I go with the flow for short.

How would you describe your art?

I’m very fluid with an outcome. I come in with an idea for a piece of work and it always transforms into something entirely different than expected. I go with the flow for short.

How would you describe your field?

It’s highly dynamic and self promoting. My preferred outcome would to be selling my work on a more regular basis. I’m still starting out and learning how to brand myself through instagram and applying to galleries at the moment. Let’s hope for the best!

What do you want to say through your art?

I want people to feel something special when they see my art. I’ve heard that my art can be very simplistically scary, which I really love and hope to continue making people feel something around a painting.

What / Who inspires you?

Abstract expressionism, especially the excluded women of the movement, Frida Kahlo and any strong female painter out there!

Does your work comment on your social or political issues?

I hope so! I try to push the envelope sometimes. Like with my series of Saudi women posing with a cigarette. I wanted it to be in your face and unapologetic, with a twist of abstraction to show a simplified and different lens.

What obstacles have you faced?

I’m from Saudi and there’s not many art opportunities here. Next to nothing actually, so I’ve been trying to expand globally rather than focus on my country right now. One day I’ll be able to do art here hopefully.

What is the best advice you could give to someone entering the same industry as you?

Don’t do it for the outcome. You’ll be sorely bitter about the whole process of making art. Making art isn’t easy, you need to create connections too. Also, don’t jump into art school too fast. I’d say work towards making money before betting on art for an easy transition.

On a more pragmatic level have you been supported during your project?

By friends and family for sure! Art can be a very lonely process if you don’t live in a place where art is valued. So please take advantage of those art classes you’ve been meaning to take 20 minutes away from home and go to your local gallery and get inspired.
